Come enjoy a special event with a Grammy award winning saxophonist Aaron Burnett, joined by a tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane performing a one of a kind jazz concert inside the 1-800 Happy Birthday exhibition. They will be playing with Kush Abadey on drums and Nick Jozwiak on bass.

About aaron burnett

Born on October 14th, 1981 in Lemoore, CA, Aaron Burnett began studying classical saxophone at the age of 9 and became interested in jazz music around the age of 16. He studied classical and jazz performance at UNC Greensboro from 1999 - 2001, then studied at the Berklee College of Music for classical composition from 2005-2008, graduating with a degree in Professional Music.

Shortly after graduating from Berklee, Aaron toured in Esperanza Spalding's Radio Music society from 2012-2013, performing on Jay Leno, David Letterman, The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel, and in 40 countries around the world.  After moving to Brooklyn, New York, Aaron received the Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Grant in 2015, and has also received multiple grants and residencies and Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn. Aaron has since been awarded 2 Grammy certificates for his contributions on Spalding's 2020 album "12 Little Spells'' and 2021 album “Songwrights Apothecary Lab”. He has also performed with many other great musicians such as Vijay Iyer, Teri Lyne Carrington, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Michelle Rosewoman, Jeff Tain Watts, Kim Thompson, Ravi Coltrane, and more.

Aaron Burnett and the Big Machine released their debut album in 2013 with “I Thoth So”, followed by 2018’s “Anomaly”, and 2020’s Jupiter Conjunct, the latter two of which were both released by Fresh Sound Records and received a 3.5 star rating from DownBeat. Aaron also received a 4 star review from Jazziz Magazine.



About 1-800 Happy Birthday

1-800 Happy Birthday is an exhibition honoring Black and Brown lives killed by police. Originally a voicemail project, now transformed into a large-scale exhibition in a 10,000 square-foot warehouse, 1-800 Happy Birthday is created by artist Mohammad Gorjestani and Even/Odd, curated by Klaudia Ofwona Draber, with artistic direction by Neil Hamamoto, and presented by arts nonprofit WORTHLESSSTUDIOS with the aim of honoring the lives of those lost too soon. The families of Dujuan Armstrong, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, Fred Cox, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant, Xzavier Hill, Donovon Lynch, Sean Monterrosa, Tony Robinson, and Mario Woods are participating in the exhibition.
